Porch play chat: supporting children to play WITH nature

In this video, Dr. Rachel A. Larimore discusses the importance of play in learning, and how we have to be more intentional than ever to integrate the outdoors and play-based learning with our children. Rachel & International Play Association USA President, Deb Lawrence, sit down and discuss how the integration of nature into traditional learning environments is a process. It’s important to be purposeful, but it is not productive to be critical about where you and your program are currently. Highlights of this video include:

→ Nature-based education is a journey

→ It should be play-based and place-based!

→ Integrate real nature, not plastic replicas of nature into the children’s environment

→ Find nature where you are: that may be the woods, it may be a classroom planter!

→Inspire joy, wonder, and awe & watch the magic
