How can nature be the organizing concept of our curriculum? How can the curriculum emerge out of children’s interests? Is it possible to do both in nature-based education?
We will address these questions and more in this 1-hour webinar focused on supporting children to learn with nature throughout the class day. We’ll do this by addressing both the implicit and explicit parts of our curriculum. This will include:
Modeling & teaching environmentally sustainable practices
Structuring our day for ongoing outdoor experiences
Developing children’s outdoor skills
Creating a rich environment for nature-based play
Planning teacher-led activities that build on children’s experiences with nature
This webinar is ideal for those just starting out or in the murky middle of their nature-based teaching journey. For those who have been on this journey a long time this webinar will be a good reminder of your core principles—a re-centering of sorts.
The goal of this webinar is for you to leave with concrete ideas you can implement immediately, at the same time aspiring for even more on your nature-based journey.

If you used the NAture-Based Education Rating Scale (NABERS) to establish your professional learning goals for the year, this webinar supports growth in Section IA and IC. These sections focus on supporting children to learn with nature and organize the curriculum so nature is the central organizing concept.
Not sure what we’re talking about? NABERS is a tool for both PreK and K-3 programs to determine the “natureness” of their program and teaching. You can find the tools in Evaluating Natureness: Measuring the Quality of Nature-based Classrooms in Pre-K Through 3rd Grade in the Samara Shop.
